Concept Refinement

 During my pitch, I don’t think Juli and I really received any helpful feedback that would've impacted our vision for our portfolio. During our pitch, all that was said were clarification questions and not any criticism. So, I would say that Juli and I are still on the same path that we’ve been on and won't make any major modifications to our project. Statista helped us with our decision making in choosing crime as our genre because according to Statista, the crime genre was actually the most popular genre of them all across all age groups with mid to low 80% of each age group choosing genre as their favorite. Our main target audience was 18 years and older and from ages 18-29, 80% of them chose crime as their favorite. The next link I looked at was from motionpictures.org and this article explains the success of movies this past year. According to motionpictures.org, “the combined global market for theatrical, home, and mobile entertainment has topped $100 billion.” Also, “The global box office in 2019 climbed to $42.2 billion, besting the previous year.” This explains how movies are very much still popular and people are still paying to see them whether it be in theaters or the comfort of their home. Now currently movie theaters have taken a big hit due to the coronavirus, but I think that production companies can use this to their advantage by focusing on more digital copies of films or streaming because people are bored at home during quarantine and definitely wouldn’t mind paying $20 to watch something new that hasn’t been on Netflix for months.  

I think the article ‘Exploring the role of meaningful experiences in users' appreciation of "good movies" ‘supports our concept because, in the article, Oliver and Hartmann talk about how the definition of a ‘good movie’ and how it is determined by the “...audiences’ appreciation of meaningful cinematic experiences.” Juli and I focused on a crime/drama genre that follows the life of a young woman that is deaf and robs investment banks that belong to the top 1%. I think that our idea can be a meaningful cinematic experience because there is more to the story than just a deaf girl that robs banks. Our film will show the struggles that this young woman had to go through due to the 1% destroying her life. Oliver and Hartmann also note that “we have begun to get a clearer understanding of how cinema can provide viewers with valuable insights into questions regarding purpose in life and human virtue.” With this being a determination of what makes a movie a ‘good movie’ I think that our concept can help people open their eyes to what the less fortunate go through and how the Robin Hood idea can somewhat sympathize.

What is your concept? (Be thorough & specific. Review the links on Blackboard)	The main character is an 18-year-old girl. Her main problem is that she is deaf ever since she can remember, she’s poor, has no education (unable to get a job). The antagonists are rich people who have had a rough history with her family by taking everything they own from them including killing her parents. She lives with her older brother who is 21 and a few of her cousins. All of them live off by robbing investment banks that belong to the rich people and fighting back for their families and everything they have lost. With the help of her brother and other family members they train and become great robbers and take back what belongs to them.
How did you conceive the idea for this concept?	“Money Heist” which is a popular Netflix show by Alex Pina, and the movie “Baby Driver” by Edgar Wright-inspired us.  Both films are perfect examples of crime/ action movies that are unique in their own way. There is a lot of action in both the show and the movie. There are guns used, robbery of banks, and getaway cars.
What do you believe is unique about your concept?	We will show the storyline of the main character and her family and what they have gone through and why they are the way they are. Having the main character deaf and as a robber is fascinating because the film will show the different skills, she uses that make her a very good criminal. It also seems special that the main characters are family and work together.
Why do you believe this product will be of interest to your audience?	Having the main character be deaf and go through many obstacles in her life with her family will make it interesting for the audience to watch. Also, despite them being very bad criminals, killing people, and doing many wrongs, the storylines and the way the film will represent the characters will show them being good people.
